The sheriff books each person arrested in Fairfax County, takes a mugshot at intake, and keeps the local arrest log. Mugshots held by the sheriff are public under Virginia Code § 2.2-3706. That statute requires the release of adult booking photos taken during initial intake.
The sheriff's office also runs court security, civil process, and inmate transport. Records requests for arrest reports and booking photos can be sent to the Sheriff's Office Public Information Office.

Fairfax County Adult Detention Center
The Fairfax County Adult Detention Center is at 10550 Page Avenue in Fairfax. It is in the Public Safety Center next to the courthouse, just west of Chain Bridge Road. Public parking is in the garage at 10550 Page Avenue. The jail is the largest in Virginia and houses about 1,300 inmates on any given day, both pretrial and sentenced.
The facility is accredited by the American Correctional Association and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care. The sheriff's office runs the jail under Sheriff Kincaid. Booking records, inmate visits, and commissary services are all handled by the office.

Fairfax County Court Records

Under § 19.2-82, a person arrested in Fairfax County must be brought before a magistrate without delay. The first hearing creates a public court file. A summons may be issued in place of an arrest under § 19.2-74 for minor charges. Use the case number to pull the full file.

Fairfax County FOIA Requests
Under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, the Fairfax County Sheriff must reply to records requests within five working days. File the request in writing. Name the person, give the arrest date if known, and ask for the mugshot, the booking sheet, and the arrest report.
Some files may be held back. Criminal incident information has its own rules under § 2.2-3706.1. Records of people in prison are covered by § 53.1-116. Records sealed under § 19.2-392.2 or § 19.2-392.3 will not be released.
A small fee may apply. The sheriff may charge for copy costs but not more than the real cost. Sex offender records are kept under § 9.1-913.
