Middlesex County Overview
Middlesex County Sheriff's Office
The Middlesex County Sheriff is the main keeper of local jail mugshots and arrest records. Sheriff David P. Bushey runs the office. You can call 804-758-2779. The mailing address is P.O. Box 207, Saluda, VA 23149. The sheriff books people after arrest and sends them to the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center for holding.
If you want a specific Middlesex County booking photo, send a request to the sheriff. Cite the Virginia Freedom of Information Act in your note. The office must reply within five work days. You can find the sheriff in the Virginia Sheriffs' Association directory, which is the state index for local arrest record custodians. The sheriff also handles incident reports and other public safety records.
Mugshot release for adults is required by state law. Under Virginia Code § 2.2-3706, the sheriff must give out the booking photo unless it would hurt an open felony probe. Juvenile records are not public.
Note: Have the full name and arrest date ready when you ask the sheriff for a Middlesex County jail mugshot or arrest record.
Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center
Middlesex County does not run its own jail. Inmates go to the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center at 170 Oakes Landing Road in Saluda. The center holds adults from five member counties. Those are Essex, King and Queen, King William, Middlesex, and Mathews. The facility is the main spot for active jail mugshots and inmate data tied to Middlesex County arrests.
You can visit mprsc.org to learn about visit rules, money for inmates, and phone calls. The center holds people who wait for trial or serve short jail terms. For a current inmate or a recent booking photo, call the jail or stop by during set hours.
The regional jail keeps daily records of who is held there. Staff handle intake, fingerprints, and booking photos. These records flow to the sheriff and to the courts. If a Middlesex County booking photo cannot be found through the sheriff, the regional jail is the next stop.
VADOC Inmate Locator for Middlesex County
People sent to state prison from Middlesex County show up in the Virginia Department of Corrections inmate locator. The tool gives a current location and a release date. The locator does not show local jail inmates. Use it for those who got long terms after a Middlesex County case.
To search, you need at least the first letter of the first name plus the full last name. Or you can use a seven-digit Inmate ID. The system returns the current facility, the next release date, and active sentence info. Visit the VADOC Inmate Locator to start.
The Virginia Department of Corrections also lists offender info under Virginia Code § 53.1-116. This rule guides how the state tracks and reports on people in state custody. The locator is a quick way to confirm a state-level inmate from Middlesex County.
The Middlesex VADOC Locator screen is shown below. The search form sits front and center. See the live page at the VADOC inmate locator portal.

The locator works for any sentenced state inmate from Middlesex County. Local jail bookings will not appear here.
Virginia Court Records for Middlesex County
Court case info ties tightly to jail mugshots and arrest records. Each booked person ends up with a case in a Virginia court. You can look up that case to see charges, hearing dates, and the outcome. The Virginia Judicial System runs free online portals for the public.
The Online Case Information System covers general district courts and select circuit courts. You can search by name, case number, or hearing date. Middlesex County cases may be searchable depending on the local court. Visit courts.state.va.us to start. The system does not let you pay fines, but the General District Court portal does.
The Middlesex Courts Case Info page is shown below. It links to district and circuit court tools. See it at the Virginia Judicial System case status portal.

Court case data helps fill in the story behind each Middlesex County booking photo. You can match a name to charges and see the next court date.
Public access to criminal records is also shaped by Virginia Code § 19.2-392.2 on expungement and § 19.2-392.3 on sealing. Some old Middlesex County arrest records may be hidden if a court has sealed them.
Middlesex County FOIA Requests
The Virginia Freedom of Information Act gives the public access to most law enforcement records. This includes arrest data, incident reports, and adult booking photos. The full law is in FOIA Chapter 37 of the Virginia Code.
To file a FOIA request for a Middlesex County jail mugshot, write to the sheriff's office. Be clear and specific. Name the person, the date, and the type of record. Public bodies must reply within five work days. The sheriff may charge a fee for time and copies, but it cannot be more than the real cost.
Some records can be held back. Virginia Code § 2.2-3706.1 covers protected info inside law enforcement files. Open felony case files may stay sealed. But basic arrest data and adult booking photos are required to be released.
Note that the sex offender registry is its own track. Virginia Code § 9.1-913 covers public access to that data. The Virginia State Police runs the registry. It is a separate tool from local jail mugshots.
Note: Send your Middlesex County FOIA request in writing to keep a clear record of the date and the items you asked for.
Arrest and Booking Process
Each Middlesex County jail mugshot starts with an arrest. State law sets the rules. Virginia Code § 19.2-82 covers what happens after a person is arrested without a warrant. The officer must take the person before a magistrate without delay.
Some arrests use a summons in place of a custodial booking. Virginia Code § 19.2-74 lets officers issue a summons for many misdemeanors. When a summons is used, no jail mugshot is taken. The person is released on a promise to appear.
For full custodial arrests, the person goes through booking. Staff at the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center take fingerprints and a photo. The booking photo becomes part of the local arrest record. The person stays at the jail until bond or release.
